Still getting started

Still working on getting this blog up and running, so this shorty will have to suffice for now:

I apparently have Meniere's Disease. You can read all about it HERE. Suffice it say that one episode of vertigo was enough to prompt me to quit coffee/caffeine cold turkey and reduce my daily sodium intake to less than 500 mg per day.

Thankfully, I've only had one vertigo episode to date. Most days, I have a low level of ringing or humming, reducing hearing a fullness in one ear. Once or twice a week, I usually have episodes or louder ringing or roaring. Both are preferable to hours of spinning and dry heaving.

So far, the diet restrictions appear to be helping in controlling Meniere's-related episodes. In this space, I hope to regularly post what I've eaten during a given day and the resulting Meniere's-related symptoms.

Wednesday (not a great one, from a nutrition standpoint):
• Breakfast: An orange, cup of decaf hot tea.
• Lunch: Homemade granola (oats, wheat germ, walnuts, dried cranberries), cup of decaf hot tea.
• Dinner/evening snacks: Three hard-boiled eggs, bowl of no-salt tortilla chips and no-salt added salsa, three small packs of grape fruit leather (like fruit roll-ups), 4-5 cups of decaf hot tea and a handful of no-salt sesame sticks.

Thursday status:
• Low-level ringing/hum and fullness in right ear.
